The average cost of tuition and fees for an out-of-state degree at a public school is well over $20,000. If you add room and board, things get insanely expensive quickly, and that's why the average student debt is nearly $30,000.
Thankfully, there are many ways to avoid those student loans and the other burdens that often come with a $80k college degree price tag. But I want to quickly share with you my very favorite.
It's the College Level Examination Program's (CLEP) Analyzing and Interpreting Literature CLEP exam. The test is worth 3-6 credits at schools that accept it, and that means that it could save you at least $2,000 at an out-of-state school.
I'm sure you're excited, so here's the process:
Contact your school to find out whether it accepts the Analyzing and Interpreting Literature CLEP test. You can Google it or call your school's registrar department.
Contact an advisor to find out what class it will replace in your degree completion plan (DCP), and make sure that you can fit that class into your DCP. For example, Liberty University transfers in the Analyzing and Interpreting Literature CLEP as ENGL 102, and most of their DCP's require ENGL 102, making it an excellent choice for LU students. (Don't despair! Even if your DCP doesn't require a course that equates to the Analyzing and Interpreting Literature CLEP exam, you may still be able to count it as an elective.)
Use SpeedyPrep's flashcards to study for the CLEP. They have a 100% pass rate guarantee, and if you use the link above, you'll get $10 off your first month.
When you are ready, schedule your test at a local proctor, pass the test and send the information to your school. Make sure they receive it, and you are ready to go!
Saving money at college really is that simple, and the best part is that you're probably more prepared for the Analyzing and Interpreting Literature CLEP exam than you think you are.
